Barquettes

Type: Complete processing

Usage: Watch blanks, bridges, dials

In 2011, the Industry and Technology Centre Schaffhausen approached us to develop a solution for barquettes that remain flat even after heavy one-sided machining. The goal: reduce scrap and eliminate expensive rework. That was the beginning of our barquette production for the watch industry. Today, we supply some of the most renowned manufacturers and continuously work to meet the highest standards.

Discs

Type: Complete processing

Use: Dials, case backs, decorative rings

Discs for the watch industry require the highest flatness and defined thickness tolerances. On our Peter Wolters machines, we grind material from various alloys – from brass to nickel silver to stainless steel and titanium. The stress-relieved structure guarantees dimensional stability even during demanding further processing. Every batch is documented including material certificate.

Watchmaking blanks

Type: Complete processing

Use: Movements, calibre parts, functional carriers

Watchmaking blanks form the backbone of every watch movement. The requirements for flatness, parallelism and bore accuracy are correspondingly high. Our double-disc grinding process guarantees thickness tolerances to ±0.005 mm and holes tolerances to ±0.003 mm. The thermally stress-relieved material prevents distortion – even with heavy one-sided machining by the customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which tolerances does Wild Wetzikon achieve on watch blanks?

On barquettes, discs and plates we achieve any thickness to ±0.005 mm and bores to ±0.003 mm, with diameter and spacing to ±0.005 mm. These values apply reproducibly across the series. Cutouts and countersinks are possible to drawing. For your specific requirements we verify feasibility from the drawing.

Which parts does Wild Wetzikon manufacture for the watch industry?

For the watch industry we manufacture barquettes, discs and plates in complete processing. Barquettes serve as the starting part for movement plates, bridges and oscillating weights, discs for dials, case backs and decorative rings, and plates form the backbone of the movement. All parts are manufactured to drawing. Details on tolerances and shapes are clarified from your specification.

Why does the material stay flat even after one-sided machining?

The material is stress-relieved annealed, which ensures the best possible flatness during and after machining. The thermally relieved grain structure minimises distortion, even under heavy one-sided machining by the customer. For you this means no time-consuming and costly rework. This principle is the basis of our barquette production.

What surface finish is possible on watch blanks?

We finish the parts to any required thickness and deburr them, with a possible Ra below 0.2. The defined surface is a prerequisite for further processing in watch manufacturing. The finish is reproducible across the series. We agree your surface requirement before production begins.

Which materials are discs and plates made from?

Discs and plates are made from various alloys, from brass and nickel silver to stainless steel and titanium. On our Peter Wolters machines we machine the material with a stress-relieved structure for dimensional stability, even during demanding further processing. Every batch is documented and delivered with a material certificate. Which alloy fits your part is something we clarify together.

Since when has Wild Wetzikon manufactured for the watch industry?

Barquette production for the watch industry began in 2011, when the Schaffhausen Industry and Technology Centre approached us. The goal was to develop blanks that stay flat even after heavy one-sided machining, in order to eliminate scrap and costly rework. Today we supply some of the most renowned manufacturers. As a grinding company from Wetzikon, we have worked to drawing since 1969.

Barquettes and watch blanks for the watch industry

For the watch and micromechanics industry Wild Wetzikon produces barquettes, discs and mainplates as ready-to-fit blanks to drawing. These starting parts are used for main plates, bridges, dials, case backs and oscillating weights. The decisive feature is high flatness, achieved through stress-relieved material and gentle machining. This keeps parts flat even after heavy one-sided machining and saves you time-consuming rework.

Barquettes are the flat starting parts from which main plates, bridges and oscillating weights are produced. We grind them to any thickness with a thickness tolerance down to ±0.005 mm and a parallelism down to 0.003 mm. Because the material is stress-relieved and processed gently, the parts stay flat even under heavy one-sided weakening through milling or bores. This is exactly what renowned manufacturers rely on.

Discs serve as starting parts for dials, case backs and rotating components. We produce them with tight thickness tolerance and even flatness across the whole surface. Recesses, countersinks and special shapes are made to drawing, so you receive a finished blank. There is no minimum order quantity, single prototypes and series alike are possible.

Mainplates form the backbone of the movement and carry all further components. They therefore require the highest dimensional accuracy and reproducible quality across the entire series. We grind these parts to drawing and document the values achieved. For non-magnetic materials we use vacuum and zero-point clamping, so the parts stay held without distortion.

Our barquette competency arose in 2011 from an industry-independent inquiry through the Industry and Technology Centre Schaffhausen. What was sought was a production in which the blanks stay as flat as possible and both scrap and costly rework are reduced. This became our entry into the watch industry. Today renowned manufacturers are among our customers. For every batch we document the values achieved and supply material certificates on request.

Whether a single prototype or a recurring series, we produce with the same care and documented flatness. As a precision grinding shop from Wetzikon we have manufactured to drawing since 1969. Send us your drawing or specification and we check feasibility, name realistic tolerances and prepare a no-obligation quote.
